The partners

The groups behind Doolittle Day.

We see Doolittle Day as a partnership between the Willows Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club of Willows, Friends of the Willows Airport, and the Airport Advisory Board.

These roles are proposals. We are still agreeing them with each partner.

Willows Chamber of Commerce

About. The Chamber’s stated mission is to promote a friendly and professional image for the city and community of Willows, and to be a resource for local businesses and residents. It publishes a community directory and relocation guide, keeps an events calendar and a job board, runs a welcome center, and hosts events for locals.

Serving the community. The Chamber is part of the airport’s own story. In September 1933 it co-sponsored the airport’s dedication and air show with the Achaean Club and the local American Legion post, as the archived clipping shows.

Role in Doolittle Day. Manages the vendor and craft fair, handles event marketing, and runs a sticker pre-sale at the Chamber Corner Store.

Rotary Club of Willows

About. A local club of Rotary, the worldwide service organization, whose members volunteer and raise money for community projects. The club works with Rotaract, Rotary’s program for younger adults.

Serving the community. The club was established in 1937, so it has served Willows for nearly 90 years.

Role in Doolittle Day. Proposed as the fiscal steward for donations and sponsorships. Rotary, with Rotaract, would sponsor a preliminary fundraiser and staff the merchandise booth and other event-day needs.

Friends of the Willows Airport

About. A volunteer group working to preserve and promote the historic Willows-Glenn County Airport. Its first project is the airway beacon tower, which still operates but needs rehabilitation and secure fencing.

Role in Doolittle Day. History and storytelling, including the “Why Willows” story at the ceremony. Any money raised beyond event costs would support their restoration of the beacon tower.

Airport Advisory Board

About. A citizen board that advises on the airport and gathers public input on it. Glenn County’s airport advisory committee is appointed by the Board of Supervisors. It has seats for Willows and Orland residents and airport tenants, with three-year terms.

Role in Doolittle Day. Event-day safety. The board would become the event-day Safety Committee, coordinating the flight line safety line and monitors, the responders, and the hard stop.

Sponsors

Doolittle Day depends on local businesses and families who step up. Sponsors help pay for the safety line, insurance, the history exhibit, and the day itself. Under the current proposal, Rotary would hold donations and sponsorships as fiscal steward, and any money left after event costs would go toward restoring the airway beacon tower.
